Sustainability

Circular Economy • Sustainable Future

Since the planet Earth’s formation a few billion years ago, natural events accumulated through millions of years have led to major climate changes. After 260 years of industrial revolution-led rapid developments, greenhouse gases have drastically increased and discharged into the atmosphere. These gases trap heat that should have dispersed into space, enhancing the greenhouse effect and causing a climate abnormality, even leading to extreme changes and starting to take a toll on life and survival. In the face of the increasingly serious climate change, the United Nations has proposed the “Paris Agreement “ in 2015. So far, more than hundreds of countries around the world have joined the global net zero front. Meanwhile, “carbon neutrality” has become the common goal of nations, enterprises, and us, the earth’s big family, which demands immediate actions.

Continental Carbon is dedicated to advancing the "circular economy" and aims to promote sustainable practices throughout the industry value chain. By integrating Ouroboros - Sustainable and regenerative circular solutions into its carbon black products, Continental Carbon seeks to meet customer demands for sustainable and high-quality raw materials, contributing to long-term sustainability goals.

Carbon Black - The exemplar of circular economy

Raw materials for carbon black include bottom oil and other by-products left over from the production and refining processes of the upstream petrochemical, coal chemical, and steelmaking industries.Through the 1,800°C combustion of the reactor furnace in the process, many harmful substances such as dioxin can be eliminated, producing the valuable product “carbon black” as well as forms of clean, green energy such as the steam and power of accessory products. Not only is the waste production volume reduced and environmental pollution risks decreased, but raw materials for different industrial applications are even provided to create the economic development.

Continental Carbon’s path to implementing the circular economy

Upgrading Continental Carbon’s path of the circular economy

To align with the global trend of achieving Net Zero and to fulfill our commitment to environmental sustainability, Continental Carbon has upgraded our existing circular economy framework from the perspectives of sustainable and renewable raw materials of industries and biological world, also the improvement on low-carbon processes and technology. By adopting a multi-faceted approach, we are optimizing the practical pathway of the circular economy to achieve the GHG emissions reduction goal.

Ouroboros solutions embedded in CONTINEX - CC series for tire/rubber applications

Continental Carbon has introduced “Ouroboros-Sustainable and regenerative circular solutions”, starting from the raw materials, through cooperation with waste tire recycling and pyrolysis manufacturers, using the recycled carbon black and pyrolysis oil produced by them, and adjusting the carbon black formula and production process through R&D technology to produce Eco-circular carbon black - CC series to help our customers meet their GHG emissions reduction goals.

The physical properties of SC series carbon black closely resemble those of virgin carbon black, which reduces tire rubber formula change fluctuations and satisfies the tire and rubber industry’s requirements for sustainable raw materials.
